Having trained extensively in the United States in body work techniques such as Alexander, Feldenkrais, Yoga, Tai Chi and Chi Gong, Sara now incorporates theses influences to provide unique client care and treatment. Drawing upon Swedish Massage, Shiatsu, Acupressure, Lymphatic Drainage, Soft/Deep Tissue work, and Neuromuscular and Muscle Energy Techniques, massage treatments are tailored specifically to client needs: from gentle relaxation and overall stress relief to more intensive, focused muscle release. Treatments can also be designed to assist conditions such as low energy levels, high blood pressure, anxiety, insomnia, IBS, poor circulation, oedema, sciatica, prolapsed disc and repetitive strain injuries. See The Clinic for more information.
Sara received her core training in massage therapy through Essentials for Health at Guy St. Thomas’ Hospital in London, attaining certifications from both ITEC and BTEC Level 4 (the highest certification level in the UK) and advanced her training with a specialisation in Pregnancy Massage and Baby Massage, studying with Suzanne Yates of Well Mother and with Sylvie Hétu of the International Association of Infant Massage.
Yoga is a natural extension of Sara’s work as a massage therapist, unifying her research in dynamics with her therapeutic hands-on work. With 17 years of yoga practice, Sara began her training as a yoga teacher at the Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram (KYM) in Chennai, India. KYM emphasizes breath as the foundation of yoga practice and adapting the practice for the individual. Sara studied intensively in all the fundamental aspects of yoga: asana, pranayama, meditation, chanting, yoga philosophy, theory and application. Her teachers included TKV Desikachar, Mekhala Desikachar and Shobana Srinivasan.
In the United States, Sara completed advanced teacher training in Jill Miller’s Yoga Tune Up® system, which complements the traditional methodology learned at KYM. Yoga Tune Up’s innovative sequences integrate classical yoga, calisthenics and body therapy to stretch, tone and strengthen the body, as well as regenerate and heal damaged or aging muscle fibres.
Sara also received specialised yoga training to address the needs of women for conception, pregnancy and postnatal care. With Suzanne Yates of Well Mother, she researched Yoga and Chi Gong exercises to benefit women through each stage of pregnancy and postnatal recovery, and Sara completed her certification to teach Pregnancy Yoga with Uma Dinsmore-Tuli of Sitaram Partnership.
In her yoga classes, Sara combines classical asana and vinyasa with innovative Yoga Tune Up techniques to increase awareness, restore physical imbalances and improve mental clarity. In one-to-one sessions, Sara creates a personalised program of yoga, massage and other bodywork as a means to repair damaged tissue, enhance flexibility and build strength. Her intention is to deepen students’ connection to mind, body and breath and enhance overall wellbeing and ease in daily life.
